3. JOHN 14:1-4 ETERNAL UNION: FORETOLD BY JESUS
a. 14:1 FAITH: AN ANTIDOTE TO ALL TROUBLE

you believe unto :God, believe also unto me.
b. 14:2 COMFORT DERIVED: FROM CHRIST’S ASCENSION

In the house of my :Father are many abodes; if not so,
EIpon an huMIN; HOti poREUo-mai he-toiMAsai [2090] TOpon [5117] huMIN.
I would have told you; for I am going to prepare you a place.
c. 14:3 WE TO BE TOGETHER WITH HIM: IN JESUS’ PREPARED PLACE

And if I go and prepare you a place, I come again,

and will receive you unto myself;

d. 14:4 THE WAY: KNOWN TO US

And where I go, you know the way.
4. 14:5-7 JESUS AS THE WAY FORTHTOLD
a. 14:5 THOMAS: IGNORANT OF THE WAY

Thomas says to him, Lord, we do not know where you go;

b. 14:6 NO WAY TO GOD BUT THROUGH CHRIST

Jesus says to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life:

no one comes unto the Father, but through me.
c. 14:7 TO KNOW JESUS – IS TO KNOW THE FATHER
ei egNOkeiTE me, kai ton paTEra mou an Edei-te:
If you had know me, you would have known my :Father also:

henceforth you know and have seen him.
a. 14:8 PHILIP’S REQUST

Philip says to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it suffices us.
b. 14:9 PHILIP SHOULD HAVE KNOWN

:Jesus says to him, Have I been so long time with you,

and you do not know me, Philip? Who has seen me has seen the Father;

how do YOU say, Show us the Father?
c. 14:10 CHRIST ONE WITH THE FATHER
ou pisTEUeis HOti eGO en to paTRI, kai ho paTER en eMOI es-tin?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?

the words that I say to you I speak not from myself:

but the Father abiding in me does his :works.
d. 14:11 ANOTHER WAY OF SEEING THIS

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me:
ei de me diA ta ERga [2041] auTA pisTEUe-te.
or else believe for the very works’ sake.
e. 14:12 OUR WORKS: WILL FLOW FROM THE ABOVE UNION
aMEN, aMEN, LEgo huMIN, ho pisTEUon eis eME,
Amen, Amen, I say unto you, Who believes unto me,
ta ERga ha eGO poiO ka’ ’KEInos poiEsei;
the works that I do shall HE do also;
kai MEIzo-na [3187] TOUton poiEsei; HOti eGO pros ton paTEra poREUo-mai.
and greater than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
f. 14:13 CHRIST ENGAGES TO ANSWER PRAYER

And whatever you shall ask in my :name, that will I do,
HIna do-xasTHE ho paTER en to huiO.
that the Father be glorified in the Son.
g. 14:14 THE UNLIMITED NATURE OF ANSWERED PRAYER
eAN ti aiTEseTE me en to oNOmaTI mou, TOUto poiEso.
If you shall ask me anything in my :name, that will I do.
NOTE: Further Insights on Preparing for the Holy Spirit. In H.A. Baker’s “Visions Beyond the Veil,” God revealed through orphans and former beggars -- the reality of the New Jerusalem. After the Millennium, Heaven will come down to earth! Baker said he had little understanding of Heaven, of God, of the Book of Revelation, of Theology and much more -- till this Visionary Visitation came upon these Chinese children in S.W. China. Jesus, angels, relatives and friends already there -- answered their questions. The answers they received and returned to earth matched with each other in a remarkable manner.
They also matched with visions received by others at various times. Sadhu Sundar Singh was only one of these which Mr. Baker meticulously gathered.
Mark this also – JESUS is God’s appointed way for all of His blessings. They came through Christ and because of Him. HE is the Way, NOT Allah or other gods. One day at His Second Coming – and people of all nations will clearly understand this.
Lastly, in this two chapter preparation portion of Scripture, Jesus reveals the extraordinary potential of answered prayer that exists for His saints! But a disciple and a saint are conditions for those who would enter into this fruitful union. It is not by “easy believism” for non-disciples. Read again Matthew 28:18-20 to review what Jesus defines as discipleship! Let no person assume or presume! LET US make our calling and election sure! And remember – a saint is one who has experienced the “Covenantal Love” of God. It is “CHEsed,” the glue that holds believers together with God, and the glue that holds believers together in vital relationship with each other.
