a. 17:1-2 THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH JESUS CAME

b. 17:3 THE TRUE DEFINITION OF ETERNAL LIFE

And this is the eternal life,

to know you the only true God,

c. 17:4 JESUS SIGNIFIES THE COMPLETION OF HIS EARTHLY WORK

I glorified you on :earth,

having accomplished the work which you have given me to do.
d. 17:5 JESUS’ PRAYER FOR CONFIRMATION

And now YOU glorify me with yourself, Father,

with the glory which I had with you before the world was.
2. 17:6-19 HOW JESUS’ WORK IMPINGES ON DISCIPLES

b. 17:7-8 WHAT THE DISCIPLES UNDERSTOOD ABOUT JESUS

Now they know that all things

whatever you have given me are from you:

8 because the words which you gave me

c. 17:9-10 JESUS’ SPECIFIC PRAYER FOR HIS DISCIPLES

I ask for them: I ask not for the world,
alLA peRI hon DEdoKAS moi;
but for those whom you have given me;
HOti soi ei-sin:
because they are yours:

10 and all things :mine are yours, and yours mine:
kai deDOxas-mai en auTOIS.
and I am glorified in them.
d. 17:11a REASON: JESUS ABOUT TO LEAVE THE WORLD
kai ouKEti eiMI en to KOSmo, kai auTOI en to KOSmo eiSIN,
And I am no more in the world, and THEY are in the world,
ka’ ’GO pros se ERcho-mai.
and I come unto you.
e. 17:11b THE HIGH AND HOLY REQUEST OF JESUS
PAter HAgi-e, TEre-son ]5083] auTOUS en to oNOmaTI sou,
Holy Father, keep them in yoor :name,
ho DEdoKAS moi,
in which you have given them to me,
HIna Osin hen, kaTHOS heMEIS.
that they be one, even as we are.
f. 17:12 JESUS’ ROLE WITH DISCIPLES WHILE ON EARTH
HOte Emen met’ auTON,
While I was with them,

I kept them in your :name in which you have given me:

and I guarded them, and not one of them perished,

g. 17:13 JESUS’ JOY FOR DISCIPLES: HIS EARNEST REQUEST
nun de pros se ERcho-mai;
But now I come unto you;
kai TAUta laLO en to KOSmo,
and these things I speak in the world,
HIna Echo-sin ten chaRAN [5479] ten eMEN pe-ple-roMEnen en he-auTOIS.
that they may have :my :joy fulfilled in themselves.
h. 17:14 RESPONSE WHEN WE LINKED WITH JESUS!
eGO DEdo-ka AUtois ton LOgon sou;
I have given them your :word;
kai ho KOSmos eMIse-sen [3404] auTOUS,
and the world hated them,
HOti ouk eiSIN ek tou KOSmou,
because they are not of the world,
kaTHOS eGO ouk eiMI ek tou KOSmou.
even as I am not of the world.
i. 17:15 NOTE THIS SPECIFIC REQUEST

I ask not that you take them out of the world,

but that you should keep them out of the evil one.
j. 17:16 JESUS CLEARLY LINKS HIMSELF WITH DISCIPLES

They are not of the world,

even as I am not of the world.
k. 17:17 RELATIONSHIP OF TRUTH WITH WORD AND SANCTIFICATION

Sanctify them in the truth: :your :word is truth.
l. 17:18 NOW JESUS ASSUMES HIS FATHER’S ROLE

Even as you did send me into the world,
ka’ ’GO aPEStei-la auTOUS eis ton KOSmon.
I also sent them into the world.
m. 17:19 RELATIONSHIP OF JESUS’ SANCTIFICATION AND HIS DISCIPLES
kai huPER auTON eGO ha-giAzo e-mauTON,
And for them I sanctify myself,
HIna Osin kai auTOI he-gi-asMEnoi en a-leTHEIa.
that THEY also may be sanctified in the truth.
3. 17:20-26 TIES TOGETHER ALL FIVE OF THESE CHAPTERS
a. 17:20-21 JESUS BROADENS HIS VISION FOR DISCIPLES

And not for these only do I ask, but for them also

that believe unto me through their :word;

21 that all be one;

even as you, Father, in me,
ka’ ’GO en soi, HIna kai auTOI en heMIN Osin:
and I in you, that THEY also be in us:
HIna ho KOSmos pisTEUe HOti su me aPEStei-las.
that the world believe that you did send me.
b. 17:22-23 UNITY FLOWS FROM GLORY – THE HOLY SPIRIT
ka’ ’GO ten DOxan hen DEdoKAS moi DEdo-ka auTOIS;
And I have given them the glory which you have given me;
HIna Osin hen, kaTHOS heMEIS hen;
that they be one, even as we are one;
eGO en auTOIS, kai su en eMOI,
23 I in them, and you in me,
HIna Osin te-te-lei-oMEnoi [5048] eis hen;
that they be perfected into one;
HIna giNOSke ho KOSmos HOti su me aPEStei-LAS,
that the world know that you did send me,
kai eGApe-sas auTOUS, kaTHOS eME eGApe-sas [25].
and loved them, even as you loved me.
c. 17:24 GLORY OF JESUS IN HEAVEN: FOR DISCIPLES TO SEE
paTER, ho DEdoKAS moi,
Father, what you have given me,
THElo HIna HOpou eiMI eGO, ka’ ’KEInoi Osin met’ eMOU,
I desire that where I am, that they also be with me,
HIna the-oROsin ten DOxan [1391] ten eMEN,
that they may behold :my :glory,
hen DEdoKAS moi:
which you have given me:

because you loved me before the world’s foundation.
d. 17:25-26 LOVE OF GOD IN JESUS: FOR DISCIPLES ALSO
PaTER DIkai-e, kai ho KOSmos se ouk EGno,
Righteous Father, the world also knew you not,
eGO de se EGnon;
but I knew you;
kai HOUtoi EGno-san HOti su me aPEStei-las [649];
and these knew that you did send me;
kai egNOri-sa [1107] auTOIS to OnoMA sou,
26 and I made known to them your :name,
kai gnoRIso;
and will make it known;
HIna he aGApe hen eGApe-SAS me en auTOIS e,
that the love with which you loved me be in them,
ka’ ’GO en auTOIS.
and I in them.
NOTE: This is such a high and holy chapter – that it is with trepidation that I approach to add a word. Perhaps what impels me to do so, is the knowledge that God through Bible Numerics, as uncovered in large measure by Ivan Panin – has made possible a new insight into “God’s New Testament.”
God sovereignly dropped into my life the knowledge of His Bible Numerics in the summer of 1944 in Victoria, BC. I was but a few months old in the New Birth, which He again had sovereignly led in. God used Dr. Jewell, a Russian Jew, to introduce me to His unusual authentication to the Divine Inspiration of the Scriptures. I shortly ordered all of Panin’s works from Toronto, and when I read his introduction to the Numeric Greek New Testament, I was captivated. The fact that Numerics not only establishes both the original Hebrew and Greek Testament texts, but also established the sentence, paragraph and chapter equivalents, cemented this captivation.
I have outlined the entire New Testament Greek and English texts of Panin on this basis, and have completed an Interlinear Greek New Testament manuscript. I believed God spoke to me in 1967 with these words – “Get My New Testament done!” With the fear of God and a holy reverential awe, I have sought to obey. The final format for preparing this work for our Website came this year. I have spent at least 40,000 hours of prayer and labor on this work. Panin refused the offer of help from “Jehovah’s Witnesses” to make an Interlinear Greek New Testament using his two texts – after the order of their “Emphatic Diaglott.” I am unworthily filling this gap after 65 years.
John 17 is the 17th chapter readied to go on the Website. As I today revised the sentence and paragraph summaries, I realized again that I stand on holy ground. Like Moses and Joshua, I would loose my sandals, and bow before Him on my face.
The transliterated Greek text and the English translation only deviate from Panin’s work where English changes from 1905 demand it.
I cannot say anything on this chapter itself. May the words of Jesus Himself, with the very brief sentence and paragraph summaries stand sufficient for His Words.
