3. 11:1-12. BLESSINGS OF ISRAEL’S ACCEPTANCE: ABOVE HER REJECTION

I say then, Did :God cast off his :people? Be it not so.
c. 11:1b PAUL: LIVING PROOF ISRAEL NOT REJECTED

For I also am an Israelite, of Abraham’s seed, of Benjamin’s tribe.
d. 11:2a GOD’S FOREKNOWN PEOPLE: NOT CAST OFF
ouk aPOsa-to ho TheOS ton laON auTOU hon proEGno [4267].
:God did not cast off his :people which he foreknew.
e. 11:2b-3 ELIJAH: PLEADED WITH GOD AGAINST ISRAEL
e ouk OIda-te [1492] en E-LEIa ti LEgei he graPHE [1124]?
Or know you not what the scripture says in Elijah?
hos en-tugCHAnei [1793] to TheO kaTA tou Is-raEL:
how he pleads with :God against :Israel:
KUri-e, tous proPHEtas [4396] sou aPEKtei-nan [615],
3 Lord, they have killed your :prophets,
ta thu-si-asTEriA [2379] sou kaTESka-psan [2679];
they have dug down your :altars;
ka’ ’GO hu-peLEIPHthen [5275] MOnos, kai zeTOUsin ten psuCHEN [5590] mou.
and I am left alone, and they seek my :life.
f. 11:4a GOD’S ANSWER TO ELIJAH
alLA ti LEgei auTO ho chre-ma-tisMOS [5538]?
But what says the answer to him?
g. 11:4b GOD’S REMNANT
KaTEli-pon [2641] e-mauTO ep-ta-kis-chiLIous ANdras [435],
I have left for myself seven thousand men,
HOIti-nes ouk Ekam-psan [2578] GOnu [1119] te BAal.
who have not bowed the knee to :Baal.
h. 11:5 GOD’S REMNANT: ELECTED BY GRACE
HOUtos oun kai en to nun kaiRO [2540]
Even so therefore at the present season also
LIMma [3005] kat’ ek-loGEN [1589] CHAri-tos [5485] GEgo-nen [1096].
there is a remnant according to election of grace.
i. 11:6 THE REMNANT: SAVED BY GRACE – NOT WORKS
ei de CHAri-ti, ouKEti ex ERgon [2041]: ePEI he CHAris ouKEti GIne-tai CHAris.
But if by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise :grace is no more grace.
j/k. 11:7-8 SALVATION FOR REMNANT: ALWAYS PART OF GOD’S PLAN

What then? What Israel seeks for, that he obtained not;

but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened:

8 according as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor,
oph-thalMOUS [3788] tou me BLEpein,
eyes that they should not see,
kai Ota [3775] tou me aKOUein, HEos tes SEme-ron heMEras.
and ears that they should not hear, unto this very :day.
l. 11:9-10 DAVID’S PROPHECY: PREDICTED ISRAEL’S FAILURE
kai DauID LEgei, Ge-neTHEto he TRApe-za [5132] auTON
And David says, Let their table become
eis paGIda [3803], kai eis THEran [2339],
a snare, and a trap,
kai eis SKANda-lon [4625], kai eis an-taPOdo-ma [468] auTOIS:
And a stumbling block, and a recompense unto them:
sko-tisTHEto-san [4654] hoi oph-thalMOI auTON, tou me BLEpein,
10 Let their :eyes be darkened, that they see not,
kai ton NOton auTON diA panTOS SUNkam-pson [4781].
And you bow down their :back always.
m. 11:11a QUESTION: IS ISRAEL’S STUMBLING A FALL?
LEgo oun, me EPtai-san [4417] HIna PEso-sin [4098]?
I say then, Did they stumble that they might fall?
n. 11:11b ISRAEL’S FAILURE: OPENS DOOR FOR GENTILE SALVATION
me GEnoi-to: alLA to auTON pa-rapTOma-ti [3900] he so-teRIa [4991] tois ETHne-sin,
Be it not so: but by their :trespass is :salvation to the Gentiles,
eis to pa-ra-zeLOsai [3863] auTOUS.
to provoke them to jealousy.
o. 11:12 ISRAEL’S RESTORATION: DESIGNED TO BLESS ALL NATIONS
ei de to paRAPto-ma auTON PLOUtos [4149] KOSmou [2889],
Now if their :trespass is riches of a world,
kai to HETte-ma [2275] auTON PLOUtos ethNON,
and their :loss riches of nations,
POso MALlon to PLEro-ma [4138] auTON?
how much more their :fullness?
NOTE: Again, the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul lays out for us the wisdom of God in clearer detail – whereby He makes salvation available to the other nations – while at the same time reserving His blessing for Israel at His appointed time.
Romans 11:12 in a sense is a summary of this section. God shows how He has made available all our past blessings – that is for us the nations; but at the same time He sweeps forward to show us that our FUTURE blessings will be MULTIPLIED – when Israel is restored into his FULLNESS.
In 1991 an Egyptian believer powerfully brought out this truth to an American Intercessory group – at the instigation of a Chinese believer. God had to first show the Egyptian brother His plan for the ONE NEW MAN – Jews and the Church together – before he was willing to accept a people he previously considered his enemy!
