1 & 2 PETER -- OVERVIEW
CHRISTIAN PRIVILEGES AND DUTIES
One. 1 PET 1:1-2 THE APOSTLE’S BLESSING. “PETER, apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of Jesus Christ’s blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.” Peter had a deep revelation of You in Your Son, Father, and knew how to pray for transference of this to Your people. Hallowed be your :name.
Two. 2:4-5 (1:3-2:10) THE LIVING HOPE. “Unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, unto a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” All our usefulness and blessing to You Father, is because of Messiah! He is our secret mystery! Your :kingdom come.
Three. 3:18-19 (2:11-4:11) THE PILGRIM LIFE. “Because Christ also died for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he bring us to :God; put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit; 19 in which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison.” Jesus was a pilgrim down here, and leads us to be pilgrims also in this world – a hostile world! Your :will be done, As in heaven, so on earth.
Four. 4:17 (4:12-5:14) THE FIERY TRIAL. “For the season is come for the judgment to begin at the house of :God: and if first at us, what the end of them that obey not the gospel of :God?” Revival, the restoration of life leaked out, must begin with the Church. You Father, start Your judgment with us, and then consummate it in the world. Our :daily :bread Give us this day.
Five. 2 PET 1:2-3 (1:1-21) TRUE KNOWLEDGE. “Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of :God and of Jesus our :Lord; 3 since his divine :power has granted to us all things unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us through glory and virtue.” This is like the prayers of Paul in Ephesians 1 and 3. Father, grant us the spirit of revelation to understand these things.
And forgive us our :debts, As we also have forgiven our :debtors.
Six. 2:1 (2:1-22) THE FALSE TEACHERS. “But false prophets arose also among the people, as among you also shall be false teachers, who shall privately bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.” Today we see clear fulfillment in the church concerning this prophecy. The end of all things is at hand. The purging and cleansing of revival is at hand. But our trust is in You, Father. And bring us not into temptation.
Seven. 3:18 (3:1-18) THE SURE PROMISE. “But grow in grace and knowledge of our :Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him the glory both now and unto the day of the age.” Here is Your Word of security, Father. In Jesus we find our Rock. But deliver us from the evil one.
